I am a garment maker with over 15 years of experience in sewing materials ranging from chiffon to leather, garment alterations. Through my BFA in Fashion Design that I received from the Savannah College of Art and Design, I also have 12 years' experience creating flat patterns for garments.
With a strong interest in sustainability in fashion, I am prepared to help bring the fashion industry into a truly green future. I have a strong interest in learning about sustainable practices in the fashion industry, from zero-waste pattern cutting to recycling old clothes in to new cloth. I am eager to expand my knowledge of these practices and their application in both large and small-scale garment design and manufacture. My dedication to sustainability also extends to my making. I strive to source the most environmentally friendly materials available to work towards eliminating any negative environmental impact from my creations.
As an avid art lover and historian by training which I received from the University of Glasgow's Dress and Textile History degree program, you'll often find me in museums or libraries. I also enjoy giving my time to documenting and cataloguing garments and accessories for museums and costume warehouses.
I love talking to people about making the fashion industry more sustainable. I believe collaboration and cooperation are the key to saving the planet. You can reach me at mbellangue93@gmail.com, or any of my social media channels.
